Dr. Pat Sheehan has presented workshops and her research on intimacy, sexuality,
trauma, compassion fatigue, stress management and addictions throughout the USA,
Canada, Europe and Russia.  A certified Ipsalu Tantra Kriya Yoga Teacher, she teaches
several workshops on tantra yoga, meditation, mindfulness and energy psychology.

Retired from her 27-year practice at the Indianapolis VA as The Chemical Dependency
Unit’s Family Program Coordinator and Team Leader of the Stress Management Trainers,
she currently counsels, consults, and teaches.  

Her first doctorate at Indiana University School of Nursing with a minor from the Kinsey
Institute resulted in a dissertation explaining the effect of trauma on intimacy in Vietnam
veterans.  In her second doctoral program, she focused on spirituality and sexuality cross-
culturally and developed a grounded theory of Jewish sexuality. She is also an Associate
with the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg Indiana.

An internationally recognized expert on the effect of trauma on intimate relationships, Dr.
Sheehan is a founding member of International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies
(ISTSS) and has presented several times at ISTSS Annual Conferences. She was on the
Editorial Board of the Journal of Traumatic Stress and was also on the Board of Directors
and Executive Committee of the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists.  She has also
presented several workshops on the effect of trauma on intimate relationships at the FBI
Academy to both mental health professionals and FBI Chaplains, survivors of the
Oklahoma City bombing, and mental health professionals throughout the world. Dr.
Sheehan has published several articles and chapters on trauma and intimate
relationships.
